A little farther East in NOLA lies a fantastic neighborhood with a definite suburban feel—my little pocket of New Orleans—Gentilly Woods! When I initially moved to NOLA, I never thought that this would be the place that my husband and I would choose to put our roots down in the city, but we’ve fallen in love with our little neighborhood. While not the neighborhood where you’ll find a plethora (or any) bars in walking distance, it’s close to Lake Pontchartrain which is great if you’re fond of fishing or just sitting by the lake watching the sunset and sailboats streak across the water. Gentilly Woods and our neighbor to the North, Pontchartrain Park, make up Pontilly. While not your typical stock of real estate that you’d find in older parts of the city (most of the construction is Post World War II), it’s a lovely walkable neighborhood and a place we’re excited to raise our son. So if you’re ever venturing a little towards the East be sure to drive through Gentilly Woods to see the flavor this little neighborhood has to offer!
